Type F Power Plug and Outlet

Overview

The Type F power plug and outlet, often referred to as the "Schuko" plug, is commonly used in Europe and other regions that follow a 220–240V electrical system. The plug features two round prongs for live and neutral connections, along with two grounding clips for added safety. It is one of the most widely used plugs in Europe.

Plug and Outlet Design

The Type F plug consists of two round prongs (4.8 mm in diameter) for live and neutral connections. It also includes two grounding clips located on the sides of the plug, ensuring a secure ground connection when inserted into the outlet. The Type F plug is often compatible with Type E outlets due to their similar design.

  • Voltage: 220–240V

Countries Using Type F

The Type F plug is widely used in the following regions:

  • Germany
  • Austria
  • Spain
  • France
  • Russia
  • Other parts of Europe (e.g., Portugal, Sweden, Norway)
  • Some countries in the Middle East
Safety and Compatibility

The Type F plug is considered safe for household appliances due to its grounding clips and secure connection. However, it is not compatible with Type C outlets, as the Type F plug requires grounding clips that Type C outlets do not have. Adapters are available for situations where the plug does not match the outlet.

Type F is similar to Type E, but the key difference is that Type E has a single grounding hole, whereas Type F has grounding clips on the sides. This makes Type F more versatile in terms of grounding options. Despite their similarities, Type F plugs are not compatible with Type E outlets unless designed for mutual compatibility.
